World's largest coin goes on display

The world's largest coin has gone on display at at Vienna's art history museum. Visitors were granted a look at the coin, which is also the most expensive coin ever made, courtesy of an Austrian financial company which loaned it to the musuem. Only five examples of the pure gold "Canadian Maple Leaf", weighing 100 kilograms and worth about a million pounds.

Awesome design! I think it's the nicest coin the RCM has ever put out.
You can own one too, in the 1 ounce size...if you can still find one?
The purest gold coin ever minted and probably the only one of it's kind.
Only 30,000 made!

They were supposed to follow it up with another .99999 for this year but I've not heard anything about it. It seems to be getting late in the year for an announcement at this point. Bummer, I was looking foreward to seeing what design they would come up with.

To be fair, they should mint one that size in .99999 Ag......Currently it's worth $2,703,316

Re: World's largest coin goes on display

It would be "affordable" at what? $50K? How does one figure the numismatic premium though? Can I get NGC or PCGS to grade and slab one for me? What is the eBay shipping price for one, do I get shipping discounts if I buy multiples?

Betcha this one will not have many fakes running around.

Its a damn shame for you that so many beautiful coins are made by the commonwealth countries ...

never mind, at least you have the phils in gold and silver now when you get bored with eagles.

Personally, I think I prefer EireGoBragh's GOLD BAR to the Maple Leaf. Just something about gold bars that is hard to resist.........

That type of bar is stunning. I prefer that "loaf" style over the stamped and polished-looking ones.

My favorite bar is my 10oz Englehard loaf bar. One of these days, I'll get a gold 10oz loaf.

TWISTY,

Good evening. I heard the "mug," is designed on the Maples to reduce confiscation, if that happens, since it'll scare the PTB off!:D:D

How about a silver version in 99999 with just the back of the ole girl's head?

NGC would have to come up with a whole new holder to grade this coin!
